Open Google AI Studio

Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with your Google account. No separate signup is needed.

Free tier limits: Gemini 1.5 Flash allows 15 requests/minute and 1 million tokens/day at no cost. This is sufficient for normal use, but you may hit delays if you generate many plans back-to-back. Google pauses requests (never charges) when limits are reached.

Create an API key

Click + Create API key. A dialog will appear asking you to choose a Google Cloud project. Select Create API key in new project — this is the easiest option and requires no additional setup.

Copy your API key

After creation, your key appears in the API keys table. Click the copy icon to copy it. Your Gemini key begins with AIza.

Keep it private. Anyone with your key can make API calls charged to your account. Never share it or commit it to code repositories.

Enter your key in Velocity AI

Open Velocity AI, go to Profile → AI Provider. Select Gemini, paste your key, then tap Save.

Velocity AI uses gemini-2.5-flash automatically — no model selection needed.
If requests are blocked, go back to AI Studio → API Keys, click the key, and verify Generative Language API is enabled under restrictions.
